Signs Your Child Might Have Vision Issues

Many common pediatric eye conditions can be detected early and treated effectively with the right care and timely management. Regular eye exams are essential, even if your child isn’t showing obvious signs of vision problems. It’s important to know any manifesting signs of vision issues.

If you notice any of these signs, it’s important to schedule an eye exam with our pediatric ophthalmologists as soon as possible.

  • Squinting or narrowing of the eyes

    The child habitually squeezes or narrows their eyes when trying to look at objects, people, or screens in an effort to see them more clearly.

  • Frequent eye rubbing or blinking

    The child repeatedly rubs their eyes with their hands or blinks rapidly and excessively throughout the day, especially during tasks that require visual focus.

  • Difficulty with distance vision

    The child struggles to recognize faces from afar, squints at the TV, or has trouble reading the board at school, often needing to move closer to see clearly.

  • Frequent headaches associated with blurry vision

    The child regularly complains of head pain or discomfort, particularly after reading, using devices, or experiencing periods of fuzzy vision.

  • Crossed or misaligned eyes

    One or both of the child's eyes visibly wander, turn inward toward the nose, or drift outward, preventing the eyes from looking at the same point simultaneously.
