An intravitreal injection is a shot of medicine into the eye - commonly antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and antiangiogenic medicine. During this procedure, doctors will inject medicine into the vitreous, near the retina at the back of the eye. Depending on the eye condition and treatment plan, several injections may be needed to see effectiveness of the medicine.
Our experts at Japan Eye Center typically recommends this for the treatment of various retinal disease. It’s often recommended for patients with conditions that make it difficult for laser treatment such as corneal opacities, corneal scars, cataracts, or vitreous hemorrhage.
It's important to prepare for an intravitreal injection.
Before your procedure:
Do not drive or operate heavy machinery
Do not apply eye makeup on the day of the injection
Do not consume alcoholic drinks on the day of the injection
If you are using contact lenses, kindly pause wearing them at least 3 days before the intravitreal injection
