Vitrectomy

Vitrectomy is a retinopathy procedure that focuses on the vitreous humor. This is a transparent gelatinous substance between the lens and the retina that fills 80% of the eyeball. It helps in the transmission and focus of light rays to the retina, and is an important route for metabolic systems of the eye.

Through this procedure, a part of the vitreous humor is removed to create better access to the retina allowing for the treatment of retinal diseases.

Retinopathy treatments aim to prevent further damage to the retina and maximize the potential vision of the patient. Prognostication of vision after treatment is dependent on several factors such as the nature and chronicity of the disease and is best discussed with your doctor.

Vitrectomy is intended for:

It may also be recommended for specific concerns outside of these. It's best to consult with your doctor to determine if Vitrectomy is the right procedure for you.
